Shoulder pain has a way of interfering with everything at once - sleep, workouts, workdays, even simple movements like reaching into the back seat or lifting a bag of groceries.

When rest, medication, and standard physical therapy have not fully solved the problem, PRP for shoulder pain may offer a more targeted option for patients who want to support healing without surgery.

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, uses a concentrated portion of your own blood that contains platelets and growth factors. After a blood draw, the sample is processed so the platelet-rich portion can be injected into the injured area of the shoulder.

The goal is not to mask pain for a few hours. The goal is to stimulate a healing response in tissue that has been slow to recover.

Precision matters here. An image-guided injection can improve accuracy, especially in a joint as anatomically crowded as the shoulder. The exact location of pain is not always the true source, which is why the clinical assessment and procedural technique matter as much as the PRP itself.

That variation does not mean PRP lacks value.

It reflects a real issue in regenerative medicine: outcomes depend heavily on patient selection, injection technique, the specific condition involved, and the way PRP is prepared.

In other words, not all PRP procedures are truly the same.

This is why physician oversight matters. A procedure can be evidence-based while still requiring judgment. The question is not simply whether PRP works in theory. The better question is whether it fits your clinical findings, your timeline, and your goals.
